Jennifer Pearsall (BS Geology, 2007)
Insurance Support Specialist in Tukwila, Washington
They said you would miss all of the long field trips and late night hours in the undergrad room - and they were telling the truth! Since graduation, I have found myself going down a path that I didn't expect. I got my BS in Geology and a minor in Spanish thinking that I would go somewhere really exotic and study volcanoes - or something to that extent. However, a year later I find myself working in the insurance business. I am currently working for State Farm Insurance in an Agency Field Office located in Tukwila, WA. In simple words, I work in an office - behind a desk for 8 hours a day (every geology student's worst nightmare). But I am actually enjoying myself. I am learning new things and growing in ways that I never thought. I have my goals set on moving up in the corporate world and my team has me pegged as 'leadership material'.
Outside of work, I spend a lot of my time trying to be outside (which is hard to do on the west side!). But I still get to spend plenty of time in Ellensburg due to the fact that my boyfriend is finishing up his degree at Central. So even though I don't work with geology, I make sure that I don't lose the knowledge and passion that CWU Geology helped me find! Who knows, I might just end up teaching or going to grad school to get that 'dream job'; but for now, I am just enjoying the ride!
