Course Description
The End of Major Review is a one-credit course required of all seniors. The course has two main
purposes: 1) to assess the Geological Sciences Program by getting feedback from students right before
they graduate; 2) to prepare graduating students for the job or graduate school application process.

Requirements
Everyone turns in a file on February 28th containing all of the following:
- Your Resume or CV. Two revised drafts are required.
- Sample cover letter. Two revised drafts are required.
- List of contact addresses, phone, sources (publication or newspaper), or URL from employment/fellowship search
(minimum 3-5 reasonable items). These should be complete enough that someone else can locate them.
- GRE scores or Power Prep GRE practice test results.
- Sample graduate school application "Vision statement" or "Statement of Professional or Academic Goals" -
Two revised drafts are required.
- List of at least three references that you would use for a job or
graduate school (names, address, phone #, fax # and e-mail).
- Unofficial transcript
- Departmental questionnaire
- Content evaluation
Grades
S or U based on satisfactory completion of the above file and attendance (at least 50% of class sessions).
Outcomes
Develop an understanding of:
- Job search preparation: students use available resources to identify positions of interest; students prepare resume
and cover letter to apply for advertised position
- Grad school preparation: students identify graduate programs and faculty in their field
of interest; students prepare graduate school "vision statement"
- Program assessment: students provide useful feedback for improvement based
on their experiences in the Geological Sciences program
