What aspects of the teaching or content of this course do you feel were especially good?

  • When we talked about earthquakes because I could tell you enjoyed that the most and that is where you are most experienced.
  • The power point shows and then the drawings on the board.
  • Logical course organization
  • He gave several examples & pictures for many of the concepts
  • I was very confident in his knowledge. His visuals helped a lot and he was very enthusiastic.
  • I thought it was nice that he actually goes out and experiences the things that we learn in class, therefore he has more to say.
  • Pictures were quite good. Explanations and summaries on chalk board were good.
  • Supplemented lecture with pictures and diagrams.
  • The lectures were interesting and were organized well.
  • The pictures provided in the lectures for visual aid.
  • The homework assignments were helpful, the outside SI sessions were good.
  • Enthusiastic. Know what he was teaching.
  • Very organized & well prepared. Good use of 1st hand knowledge & personal experience.
  • The lectures.
  • Much useful information was presented. I found the class interesting.
  • The power point
  • This course was much harder than I thought. Instructor went too fast giving the lecture.
  • Great enthusiasm Š thanks for not letting slackers in class turn stuff in late! That is so annoying for those who donÕt do that...
  • The power point presentations because it has good illustrations and main points of what we were learning.
  • Professor enthusiasm
  • Examples Š having an actual picture of what we were learning was great.
  • The real pictures of geologic related material
  • I thought he was a great teacher & I liked how he used power point.
  • The Prof confidence & enthusiasm.
  • I thought the Charles Rubin was an awesome teacher who knew the subject very well & at no point in the quarter did doubt his intelligence on the subject at hand. I really appreciate the subject are far more interested in it now because of Mr. Rubin.
  • He knows what he is talking about and is very enthusiastic about geology. His power point presentations are helpful & well prepared.
  • I thought that Charlie was an excellent teacher. He was always ready to start class with enthusiasm, which really helped me pay attention at 9 in the morning. He made me appreciate the field and I thoroughly enjoyed the class.
  • Rubin knows what he is talking about, I was always confident in his knowledge. Even though he went really fast through lectures at the beginning of the quarter, it was nice that he slowed down towards the end.
  • Slide shows, movies
  • Charlie is really reliable when it comes to providing accurate information. You know you can trust him because he works in the field all the time. Things were much more interesting because he showed pictures that he took and told stories about things that heÕs seen.
  • I was confident in his knowledge. I gained more of an appreciation for geology. Used class time well. li>I felt that the teacher had a really great passion for the field.

What changes could be made to improve learning in this course?

  • Slow down!! Maybe note guides online would help if the teacher wished to speed through the content of the class.
  • Tests & assignments could be returned in a more timely manner.
  • Sometimes with that much lecture and the lights off, itÕs hard to focus. Also, it would be lovely if we got tests back sooner than a couple of weeks later.
  • More cool film
  • DonÕt encourage questions if your going to blow people off or tell them to wait. DonÕt be more concerned about getting through material than whether or not ppl learn it.
  • Speaking slower, easier tests.
  • He goes a little fast through lectures and there is not enough time to get all notes you want.
  • None
  • Sometimes he went over things a little too fast. I think he needs to slow down a little bit.
  • To many ŅBeautifulÕ mountains
  • Slow down during lectures!
  • Fast Paced Š hard to keep up. More hands on? More review
  • The professor should explain things slower and stop once in a while if we have questions.
  • Clear up PP slides Š too much extra info Š we want to write it down Š but you donÕt want us to?! Notes are hard to follow w/bullets such as I, 1, A, etc. Use plain bullets & large obvious headings.
  • You go too slow over the simple and too fast over the complex.
  • Increase speed
  • The professor needs to have more review sessions before class and needs to slow down during his lectures sometimes.
  • Possibly slow down for better explanations.
  • PLEASE SLOW DOWN! WeÕre too scared to say anything or to busy trying to write fast!
  • External class assignments should be more flexible for students who have other classes.
  • Time of day offered
  • Rubin is way too fast w/his power points!
  • He needs to slow down
  • Not doing a power point EVERYDAY. Instead switch it up with something that will wake us up so early in the morning.
  • Charlie could slow down some. I wanted more communication between lecture and lab. The two didnÕt coordinate. Make one or the other difficult. For its easier to talk about metamorphic rocks in lecture if you have seen one in lab.
  • Get tests corrected on time, get grade sheets handed out occasionally.
  • Power points should be less cluttered
  • Less material at one time, sometimes it got overwhelming.
  • Go slower when presenting information
  • I really donÕt think I would change a thing
  • Do more specific study guides for exams
  • Communication between professor & those teaching the labs. Often, course material would be introduced in the lab before the class.
  • Perhaps more quizes, such as a weekly quiz
  • In your syllabus it says to write everything down on the board and make sketches of pictures, but then you said not to write down everything and just write down the important stuff. As a student, I had no idea what is important, so it would be helpful if you highlighted the things we should put in our notes on your power point presentation.
