What aspects of the teaching or content of this course do you feel were especially good?

  • Powerpoint slides
  • He has put in a great effort to try and slow things down and go a little more indepth and explain more clearly. I like that he relates things to real issurs it helps in remembering it for the test.
  • Analogies and examples (keep it up with using food or toys for examples of geologic functions, they stay in my mind) listened to students to slow down powerpoint presentations reviewing quizes to drill the lessons into our brains
  • Rubin is enthusiastic, uses helpful diagrams, provides study sessions & presents info in a way that can be understood easily
  • Rubin did a nice job in presenting the topics. I could tell that he knew what he was talking about
  • Very interesting and practical once we got past the rock names. Powerpoint is very useful, really helps for notes Great explanations when needed Rubin slows down when asked
  • He met with me when I did badly on a test to go over my notes. He was very helpful
  • A lot of information was covered well, didn't leave any unanswered questions
  • He was very knowledable. Powerpoint was very helpful.
  • I liked the power point. It was nice to be able to read the notes from the back. I also enjoyed all the visuals that were presented to help better understand the topic.
  • Very knowledgable in the field and very willing to help students who are struggling
  • He knew what he was talking about. VERY INTELIGENT! Very little extra review was needed because the lectures were very complete and informative
  • I just really enjoyed the enthusiasm and excitement put into the subject. Very enjoyable.
  • If you went in to get help he made things very clear & he was always there to help
  • Notes on overhead are good Using only what we did in class on test is good - no surprises I liked that pictures _ good visual
  • Having a good layed out plan for the quarter Having slides w/ pictures & key things for notes quizes
  • I really liked the use of the power point presentations for lectures. It provided a great visual aid and the photos included were excellent. I really felt like he knew a lot about the subject
  • I felt confident with the instructors knowledge of the field. The course as a whole was good
  • I felt he incorporated many interesting concepts into his lectures
  • Giving examples we could relate to. His experience in the field made me confident of this knowledge
  • Slow Down
  • Good info, but too fast
  • Power pt. was good, instructor enthusiasm was nice, instructor made effort to slow down when we asked.
  • Rubin was very enthusiastic in class and was a good teacher.
  • The information covered was awesome. I learned a lot
  • Through explanations, interesting & relatable examples, kept me awake wven when I didn't have coffee
  • Good pictures
  • Knew a lot about his subject
  • Lovely pictures of rocks and things
  • The rocks I really liked the rocks
  • I thought Rubin did an excellent job teaching this class. He broke down certain principles & ideas & told us what to study and focus on
  • His knowledge of Geology
  • Many pictures along with notes.
  • Willingness to help (study sessions). Started off too fast, but slowed down to a reasonable rate Power point format was easy to follow Made class fun to learn in Teacher tried hard to have us succeed.
  • The pace of the lectures Real - world examples
  • I enjoyed the lectures being in powerpoint, and the instructors positive attitude.
  • Instructor was very knowledgeable & showed a lot of passion towards the subject
  • The lectures are informative & through
  • Some of the information was very interesting. Thanks for ding the study sessions. they really helped.
  • Having pictures as examples during the powerpoint were especially helpful and interesting. Once Rubin slowed down it was alot easier to learn the information and it gave me more appreciation for geology.
  • Was always in a good mood and ready to teach

What changes could be made to improve learning in this course?

  • Talks too fast sometimes.
  • Prof. Rubin needs to slow down
  • Study sessions
  • Take off the going to a speech. Hw it is a waste of time
  • Slow down a little when going through slides.
  • I wish he used black board more often.
  • All I ask is that you slow down in lecture
  • Condensed notes on powerpoint would help greatly. Too much information to read, write, while trying to listen to professor all at once.
  • Relax itŐs only a 100 level course
  • None
  • More lovely pictures of rocks and things
  • Let student copy notes, then explain pictures, diagrams Make outline more clear.
  • Spend more time on each slide so everyone can copy down the notes.
  • Rubin needs to slow down "a lot" while going over slides so the students can take notes instead of half the notes.
  • SLOW DOWN! YouŐre getting better, just keep working at it!
  • Give study guides, only give out the useful info we need to know because so much is covered everyday, SLOW DOWN
  • Weekly quizzes, make slides available on-line - they are helpful but it is difficult to write everything down and also listen to the explanations of the diagrams (or even look at them).
  • TO FAST!!!
  • I know you tried hard, but you still went a little too fast
  • Not much, but perhaps move a little slower.
  • You tried to slow down - keep trying
  • Slow down in lecture it gets hard to keep up & absorb the lecture provide feed back on grade perhaps provide extra credit once & a while
  • Slower Speech Simplify the power point slides so we can hear the explanation from you instead of just frantically copying slides
  • Mr. Rubin should slow down when we are taking notes. It is hard to pay attention to what he is saying & write notes really fast.
  • SLOW DOWN!!! or at least make the powerpoints avable on blackboard or something
  • SLOW DOWN! it not that you move through the material to fast it's that you speak and go from topic to topic too fast.
  • Slow down just a little more, it's easy to fly by information. May be easy to understand for some, but harder for otherŐs.
  • GO SLOWER!!! Lecture to the whole class, not just the DHC kids in the front. Use less words or more common words for notes.
  • Maybe explain what we need to know/write down. Talk slower & discuss more things in detail.
  • SLOW DOWN! and students try to write everything one the powerpoint. maybe put only key things, necessary things, on the powerpoint so it doesnŐt take forever to take notes.
  • Needs to drastically slow down & explain everything. Rushing through lectures is nothing to laugh about or be proud of. The last 10 minutes of class is no reason to go fast - There's no reason to go fast at all. Rubin rushed through lectures & I didnŐt learn.
  • The powerpoint is nice for pictures, but it is very difficult to get information written from it (powerpoint) down while trying to listen to what the instructor is saying. Instructor also needs to slow down while giving lecture.
  • Condense powerpoint Move notes on board for graphics
  • N/A He did "slow down" well. great improvement Mr. Rubin!
  • Having study sessions before tests would be nice.
  • He goes very quickly, I feel like I am always writing and not being able to focus on everything he's talking about and pay attention to the examples because of writing notes.
  • Slow down... even more book more as a guide or go-to dictionary for clarifying concepts, not as required reading
