What aspects of the teaching or content of this course do you feel were especially good?
- Charlie was enthusiastic and he encouraged questions.
- I thought your follow-up explanations were good.
- Prof Rubin really established that he wanted students to ask him questions and understand
the course material.
- Attendence not being required was a plus, the slides 7 animations were good. Always great
pictures to keep me interested and Charlie also had a great personality.
- I really understood the material & it was very interesting. Normally I hate science, but
I don't mind coming to this class.
- Good enthusiasm!
- Great teaching style. Professor very enthusiastic. Good examples. One of the best intro
classes I've taken.
- Rubin was very enthusiastic which made the class very engaging. This was a very well
organized and well taught 100 level class.
- Reviews material every so often.
- You have great energy that gains the interest of the students. You're a great professor.
- His slides were very good.
- Good information about certain topics.
- He knew his stuff and was passionate about teaching.
- One thing that I really liked was how he repeated the information a lot. I feel like
it stuck in a little more.
- Rubin was very good at explaining the material we went over. In addition to the PowerPoint
presentations, he also did reviews of what he went over each day in class, which was very helpful.
- It was great to have a teacher so enthusiastic about their work. It was contagious.
- The animated "movies" of how certain processes work helped.
- Good clear explainations of certain systems that are involved w/geology. Pictures &
diagrams were very understandable & helpful.Really excited about his work
- Used good examples. Great visual aids. He's had experience.
- Rubin really cares about his students. After every test he lets people come to his
office and he will go over everything and tell you what might help better next time.
- The class was tough but it pushed me to study and learn. The lectures were long, but
clear and organized. Study guides were a bonus. The class was overall excellent.
- Charlie's enthusiasm for geology was inspiring.
- Going through the PowerPoint slides, and making it easier to understand.
- You know your stuff I never doubted a word you said.
- Prof. Rubin was very informative and enthusiastic.
- Practice test & quizes.
- Teacher knew a lot.
- Prof Rubin obviously knows a lot about this field. It was neat to have a teacher who
seemed so passionate about his job.
- Rubin was a fun teacher to listen to.
- Slow Down!!!
- Lectures were a little fast but not hard to understand.
- I was very confident Professor Rubin knew what he was talking about.
What changes could be made to improve learning in this course?
- I with he would plan his teaching lesson each day, that way he paces himself because
sometimes he sprinted through the material.
- I donŐt really no.
- The SI course should never be online again. I know Rubin really doesnŐt have a say
in this, but still. He also goes at a fast pace, it'd help if he slowed down a bit.
- I think Charlie knows what heŐs doing.
- I did poor on tests, they were not representative of my knowledge. I studied, took
great notes and came to class every day, but then on my work I was graded as average.
- Needs to slow down the lectures. Goes over important info too fast.
- Rubin was a little fast during lectures. This caused increased stress on me as a student.
If I missed stuff, I would just give up.
- Better/more direct correlation to the lab component.
- The book is not very helpful.
- Slow down a little. Course people don't ask questions either.
- He moved too fast. Covers too much info for our class day.
- Slow down
- Maybe go a little slower with the slides.
- You speak too fast. Great energy, but it is lost in the transmission. Even Picasso
is ugly at 80 mph.
- Try to make things more exciting because it was hard to attend class on a regular basis.
- Nothing. It was a great course and very interesting.
- Prof moves too fast.
- I think class involvement would help more, asking questions to the class as a whole
to prompt answers instead of lecturing the ENTIRE time. Ask people if they've seen these
places or been there in person, etc.
- Less information on PowerPoint lecture and do lecture by writing on board rather than
on PowerPoint. Lecture need to be slower and discuss previous material covered to remember
what was learned in previous lectures.
- He could slow down.
- Give a couple of assignments to help review notes.
- More lecturing on board then PowerPoint. Less photo examples (sometimes takes too much time).
- Slow down on info per class.
- Rubin goes too fast and there is a lot of material to know everyday leading up to the test.
Sometimes it is overwhelming.
- It would be better in my mind if Rubin had printed out & handed us the course outline & syllabus.
Instead of having us download it.
- Charlie needs to either slow down or make the course less in-depth.
- Teacher at times had a smarmy(?) "why should I care, it's your grade" attitude.
- Slow down a lot!
- Try not to be so cocky and act all superior like Geology 101 doesn't matter to you.
vSlow down during lectures (duh). Each time you want to go to the next slide, wait for 10 seconds,
then go.
- Slow down, provide copies of PowerPoint notes to students to study.
- Slow down.
- First, this is a 100 level class. Please remember that! Also slow down! You go way to fast.
- Slow down a bit. Talk about things longer and more in depth.
- DonŐt know about learning but it would be nice to have grades online by student ID for viewing.
- For the lectures before the second test, slow down and lecture more on beginning materials
instead of rushing through and then reviewing the same material for 3 days at end.
