To the PANGA Investigator Community,

As you may have heard, the Plate Boundary Observatory has been funded
as a new start in the MRE program. Earthscope received a
congressional appropriation of $30 Million for year one in the
just-released FY2003 federal budget. This success is the result of
four years of hard work and planning by our community. Thanks to
each of you who contributed to the workshops, mini-proposals,
proposals, and political support that led to this success. What
better way is there to christen our Panga list-serve (panga-announce)
than to celebrate this?

Thanks also to all of you who attended the 2002 PANGA Investigator
Community Meeting last November. Its success was the result of your
presentations and contributions. A summary of the meeting is posted
on our new community web page, created for the PANGA Investigator
Community. If you visit http://www.geodesy.cwu.edu/ you will find
this choice on the nav bar:

PANGA Community
About PANGA (mission statement, core institutions,
investigator community, etc)
	Science plan
	PANGA Investigator Community Meetings Archive
	PANGA related PBO proposals
Linking EarthScope Deployment to PANGA science goals
	List serve link

The science plan continues to be a work in progress and will be taken
up by the Executive Committee that grew out of the last meeting.
Comments are always welcome. This document is intended to reflect
the dynamic set of science goals that we individually and
collectively pursue and comments and revisions will be solicited
annually or may be submitted at any time to spencer@geology.cwu.edu.

We plan to add a bibliography to the community page and welcome your
submissions. Just send the full reference for any paper that uses
geodetic data from the Cascadia margin, also to
spencer@geology.cwu.edu. We also welcome suggestions about what else
should be posted here.

We have finalized the new list service. If you received this
message, you have been registered. The list is typically only used
to organize the annual meeting and occasionally to provide
information about timely scientific contributions. Postings must be
allowed by a local list administrator, so your subscription should
not generate additional spam.

To post messages, subscribe, or unsubscribe, visit the list serve web page at:

http://www.geology.cwu.edu/mailman/listinfo/panga-announce.

For those who prefer to use only the email interface of the
list-serve, you can get info about this by sending a message with
just the word `help' as subject to:

    	panga-announce-request@geology.cwu.edu

We welcome your comments.
