Frank Hasiak (BA Earth Science, 1999)
Middle School Science Teacher in Sumner, Washington
I am still working at Mountain View Middle School (use to be junior high) in the Sumner School District (Sumner). This is my 8th year there and things are going well. I used to teach 8th and 9th grade science but since switching over I only teach 8th grade science.
My geology degree used to help a fair amount as we used to teach about rocks and minerals but the curriculum has changed and I teach mostly physics now with a little astronomy. I still try to throw some geology in there when I can. I do a short lesson on crystal growth towards the end of the year and we grow salt crystals. I will probably be here for a few more years at least.
Family: I am approaching my 12th wedding anniversary and my 35th birthday. I have 2 children, Ethan (4.5yrs) and Evie (2 months). We live in Bonney Lake and plan to be here for a while. I don't have as much free time as I used to but when I do, I spend it hunting, fishing and taking Ethan to his sporting events.
I really miss my days in the geology department and all the friends I made there. It would be nice to get back in touch with some of them as I am currently only in touch with one.
UPDATE: I am teaching my second year at Lakeridge Middle School still in the Sumner School District. My son is 6 now and my daughter is 2. Also, I will be 37 here in a couple weeks.
