Lisa Harris Hall (MS Geology, 1999)
Mom in Inyokern, California
We live in Inyokern, California - south of Bishop. The southern Sierras are in my backyard!
What hasn't changed in my life? We had another baby, husband Kurt graduated and got a job, I quit mine, and we moved! Oh, you want details? In May, 2009 we welcomed Dennis Francis Hall to our family. Kathryn is a marvelous big sister. Kurt defended his thesis in August '09 and graduated from U of Idaho with a Master's in mechanical engineering. He accepted a job in Ridgecrest, California. I quit my environmental engineering job a month after they gave me a 10-year anniversary party, and we moved. We bought a house in Inyokern (pop. 970).
We like it here; everyone we've met has been super nice. Kurt enjoys his job. I stay home with the kids. We've done a little hiking in Death Valley and want to go to Yosemite soon. I think of my CWU Geology friends often and wish I'd gone to the GEOL 210 field camp in Bishop so I knew what was going on around here!
What I remember most about my CWU experience is the camaraderie among all the students. That was a really neat aspect of the department. Dr. Hinthorne was awesome. My TA experience helped me get over some public speaking fears. I miss all my friends from there! My grad school experience reinforced a strong work ethic that is sometimes missing in today's world.
UPDATE: Here is a new picture of me and the kids. Taken this August at Crater Lake (obviously! :) ).
Besides the kids getting older, not much has changed since my last update. We're still in Inyokern, CA. Kathryn loves 1st grade and Denny is a ball of energy full of crazy 3 year old boy ideas!
