Sue Mickiewicz Buchanan (MS Geology, 2007)
Engineering Geologist in Greensboro, North Carolina
I am still working as a engineering geologist at Schnabel Engineering in Greensboro, North Carolina. I recently received my Professional Geology license for the state of North Carolina. My main focus at work has been more geared to engineering geology and providing field support to the dam engineers in the office.
My husband, Brandon, still teaches middle school science and social studies and focuses more on coaching high school, middle school and Junior Olympic volleyball. We have a wonderful 6 month old baby boy named Tripp, born June 2012 (see attached picture). Tripp is truly a joy in our lives, he is a happy, easy-going baby; and, Brandon and I are enjoying being parents. Our time is filled with work, Tripp, golf, volleyball, and taking trips when we can (like to Hawaii this past November!!).
My time at CWU Geology was a great experience; the education in the field and classroom was awesome! Although my thesis topic isn't at all close to what I do now (volcanology to engineering geology), the hard work involved in seeing a project from start to finish is just as rewarding. I will always remember the fun times at the CHP house, trips to Leavenworth for Oktoberfest, the Eburg Rodeo, and the great field trips around the state of Washington. Good times, good times. But the snow - I can't say I miss that.
