Rebecca Stratis (BS in Geology, 2016)

Environmental Health Specialist in Ellensburg, Washington

After graduating from CWU with a B.S. in Geology, I accepted a job as an Environmental Health Specialist with Kittitas County Public Health. I run the OSS program for all of Kittitas County. My job consists of conducting site evaluations, soil logs, final inspections, and issuing permits for new septic systems.

When I initially applied for this job, I was not sure it would relate to my degree. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I learned that I would be analyzing soils in the field. I encourage other graduates to get creative in their job searches. Sometimes, geology hides in the most unexpected of places!

Deciding to attend Central for my undergraduate degree was one of the best decisions of my life! Not only has my degree prepared me to enter directly into the workforce, but also to pursue a higher level of education. I plan on attending graduate school in the very near future and would like to continue in the field of igneous petrology.
