Missti Brown (BS Geology, 2007)

Graduate Student at SUNY-Buffalo

I am currently finishing up my first year as a Master's student at the State University of New York or better known as SUNY-Buffalo. My advisor is Dr. Greg Valentine, and my thesis is focusing on the impacts of pyroclastic flows on urban environments.

Having attended CWU has given me a great advantage over many of my fellow students. It is amazing how little field experience others have. I am eternally grateful for the many field trips and field courses that I have had the privilege to be a part of. Granted I was one of those that complained at the time, but now I look back at them with fond memories!

I now live on the north campus in Amherst, in the graduate student housing. In August, I took an amazing road trip just to get here. For all who haven't been, Yellowstone and Niagara Falls are some of the coolest places ever. I am learning so much while I am here, but I don't really have a lot of free time. I sometimes manage to squeeze in a few moments here and there with my boyfriend Chris. Once it warms up, I am hoping to be able to explore the East Coast a little more before I leave. I eventually plan on getting a job back on the West Coast, but for right now I am happy to go where the wind blows.
