Bre MacInnes and colleagues awarded
NSF grant for Aleutian Islands study
Breanyn MacInnes has been awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation to study historical and paleo-tsunamis in the Islands of the Four Mountains region of the central Aleutian Islands. Dr. MacInnes' research is part of a larger archaeological project with collaborators Dixie West and Virginia Hatfield (Kansas University), and Kirsten Nicholaysen (Whitman College) studying how the Unangax^ people on the islands were affected by climate change, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and tsunamis. The project is an interdisciplinary and international collaboration between archaeologists, volcanologists, ecologists, and zoologists, and will last for 3 years.
