Andrew Hoxey and Melanie Swick awarded
GSA Graduate Student Research Grants
Congratulations to Andrew Hoxey and Melanie Swick as each have been awarded Geological Society of America (GSA) Graduate Student Research Grants for 2017. Andrew, who will be working with Professor Jeff Lee, received $1550 in support of his MS thesis research on "Spatial and temporal characterization of dextrally offset tuff-filled paleovalleys in central Walker Lane, Nevada." Melanie, who will be working with Professor Susan Kaspari, received $1500 in support of her MS thesis research on "Partitioning the contribution of light absorbing impurities to snow and glacier melt using a novel hyperspectral microscopy method."
The GSA Graduate Student Research Grants provides partial support of MS and PhD thesis research in geological sciences. GSA's goal each year is to fund ~50% of the research proposals submitted.
