Marie Takach Awarded 2018
Yakima Rock Club Scholarship

Marie Takach, a second year students in the Geology Master's program was awarded the Yakima Rock Club Scholarship for 2018. Congratulations Marie, and many thanks to the Yakima Rock Club for its continuing support of Master's students in our department.

Marie is a western Pennsylvania native who is interested in studying the processes by which volcanic and plutonic rocks form. Since there are no volcanoes in Pennsylvania, she fled to the west coast in 2016 to pursue graduate studies in geology. For her master's thesis, Marie is applying the Magma Chamber Simulator, a thermodynamic model, to Mt. Etna in order to quantify the role of carbonate assimilation in historical to recent lavas.
