Students leave Ellensburg on Monday, June 13, 2022 and travel by CWU vans to the OSU field station in Mitchell, OR for first three weeks of field work. On July 5th, students will pack-up and travel by OSU vans to the Wallowa Mountains for the final week of field work. On July 8th, students will clean and pack-up, then rendezvous with CWU vans near Biggs Junction before returning to Ellensburg.

The 2022 course will be taught by Dr. Brennan van Alderwerelt from CWU and Dr. Frank Sousa from OSU, and graduate student teaching assistants from both CWU and OSU. A ratio of approximately 6 to 8 students per instructor ensures excellent personal instruction.

Information Form

The Geologic Field Methods Consent and Medical Information form, which includes contact, health insurance, emergency contacts, and medical information, must be submitted by Monday April 18, 2022. Before submitting your forms, please read the Physical Safety and Camp Rules for this course.

All students taking Geol 489 must submit the form either by email or in-person to Dr. van A We will bring copies of all students' forms to field camp, and a second copy will be kept on-file at the CWU departmental office, Discovery Hall, Room 129 (Moriah Kauer). The 2022 course fee will be $1680, which covers use of field stations, meals, instructional materials, some supplies, and transportation to/from CWU to Oregon, and in the field.
This fee is due when students register for GEOL 489.

Van Drivers

[The below info may not be relevant for 2022]

We will need students who are qualified to drive the CWU 15 passenger vans. To qualify, please visit the Motor Pool Office, which is located on the west side of campus, on 11th St, about 100 yards west of D St. First time drivers of a CWU van will be required to take a self-paced, approximately one hour long CD-ROM course about driving these vans in the Motor Pool Office. For those who have been previously certified, you must renew your certification annually via an online test at Van Safety Renewal.
